Achieve 2023 ESG Goals: Using Microbes to Aid in Positive Environmental Impact

As Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) reporting becomes a global common language for measuring important issues, using microbes in the petroleum and wastewater industries provides a perfect solution. Tailor-made microbial blends that are 100% safe for land, air, water, and life check two crucial factors: effectiveness and sustainability.

What makes JGL microbes safe for the environment?

JGL Solution's microorganisms are all naturally occurring and intrageneric. This means that we do not genetically alter our product in any way. The Environmental Protection Agency does not regulate JGL's microbial blends for four main reasons:

  1. No genetic alteration
  2. Non-pathogenic
  3. Non-carcinogenic
  4. Non-toxic

Toxic Substances Control Act

Under the Toxic Substances Control Act: naturally occurring and intrageneric microorganisms (stay in the same genome when they reproduce) are not subject to EPA regulations. Only intergeneric microorganisms, which are formed by deliberate combinations of genetic materials from organisms classified in different taxonomic genera, are regulated by the EPA. The TSCA states that "Microorganisms subject to this rule are "new" microorganisms used commercially for "TSCA purposes," such as the production of industrial enzymes and other chemicals; agricultural practices (e.g., biofertilizers); biosensors; production of biofuels, and breakdown of chemical pollutants in the environment." View the Microbial Products of Biotechnology: Final Rule (62 FR 17910) here.

If a release of JGL's microbial product occurred in the environment, there would be no cleanup required. In fact, it would most likely improve the area affected.

Example

Due to a valve failure, JGL's microbial treatment truck leaked product onto an oilfield lease in Texas. JGL's microbial product is not toxic and does not require reporting. However, the operator followed chemical protocol to report a toxic spill. The spill was reported to the Texas Railroad Commission and they began the environmental protocol and shut wells in. After review, they quickly determined that there could be no harmful effect on the environment and there was no cleanup required. Wells were immediately turned back on.

Boost production, decrease failures, and achieve ESG goals in 2022.

According to the EPA, our microbial products are 100% approved for safe release in the environment. We strive to play our role effectively in leading the industry in sustainable development and environmental stewardship efforts. Further 2022 ESG goals by replacing toxic alternatives with microbes.

A better solution for your field.

FAQ Page

Is there a different microbe product for each issue I have?

There are different strains of microbes for different issues. JGL Microbes are able to blend into one treatment, tailor-made to your system.

Why use microbes instead of chemical?

Synthetic chemicals are man-made copies of naturally occurring chemicals in nature and are for the most part toxic and/or environmentally harmful to personnel, plants, animals, aquifers, etc. Microbes are more effective than chemical because of their biological process, they produce natural chemicals and by-products in situ making them much more effective for common oilfield applications.
